Lahore: A parliamentary panel made the stunning disclosure that some Pakistani cricketers were involved in match-fixing during the recent tour of Australia but declined to name the players involved. The three-member sub-committee of the Senate Committee on Sports made the revelation after a meeting with Pakistan Cricket Board officials,including its chairman Ejaz Butt. “The sub-committee was briefed on the tour with documents,and there are verbal,video and solid proofs that one or more players were involved in match-fixing,” said Haroon Akhtar,a member of the sub-committee.

Chittagong: Bangladesh faced a stiff task of saving the opening Test against England despite a fighting half-century from Junaid Siddique on Monday. Siddique made an unbeaten 68 as Bangladesh struggled to reach 191/5 in their second innings at stumps on the penultimate day,chasing an improbable 513-run target. Paceman Tim Bresnan (2-45) and off-spinner Graeme Swann (2-61) reduced Bangladesh to 110-5 in the afternoon,but Siddique and Mushfiqur Rahim (47 not out) denied the tourists further success.

Maharashtra,Hyderabad in final

Indore: Maharashtra will take on Hyderabad in the final of the SM Ali Twenty20 Trophy at the Maharani Usharaje ground in Indore on Tuesday. Maharashtra beat defending champions Tamil Nadu by three wickets to book their spot in the ultimate match of the domestic season. Incidentally,both the teams were relegated from the Ranji Trophy Super Elite group this year.

Melbourne: The Kiwis will be stooping to an unacceptable low if they sledge Michael Clarke about his troubled personal life in the upcoming Test series but the Australian vice-captain is strong enough to handle such a situation,feels team-mate Mike Hussey. “I’d hope it doesn’t come up – that would be a bit below the belt. It’s a personal issue and it’s probably going a little bit too far if they do mention anything about that,” Hussey was quoted as saying.
