Australian Authroties have intercepted a boat carrying 53 suspected asylum seekers and two crew near Christmas Island.
HMAS Glenelg,operating under the control of Border Protection Command,intercepted the vessel this morning,according to a report.
The group will be transferred to Christmas Island where they will undergo security,identity and health checks.
Meanwhile,UN High Commissioner for Refugees in a report said that the number of asylum seekers in Australia was low by world standards.
In 2009,377,200 asylum claims were recorded in 44 countries,with Australia receiving less than two per cent of them,according to country8217;s Home Affairs Minister Brendan O8217;Connor.
