A day after 26-year-old Anthony Amalraj jumped on the table to celebrate his maiden national table tennis title, the TTFI imposed a nominal fine of Rs 1,000 following an apology from him.

Amalraj has given a written apology for his behaviour. Considering that,it was decided to impose a fine of Rs 1,000 on him late on Sunday night. The red card shown by the umpire still stands. The matter will be taken up by the disciplinary committee in March, Table Tennis Federation of India secretary general Dhanraj Choudhary said.

It was his first national title despite playing at different levels for the past many years. It was only his over-enthusiasm. I am sure he will show more maturity in future, he added.
