A principal, allegedly in a drunken state, opened fire on a thin crowd gathered outside the school today, killing a 17-year-old.
It was the first day of Class VIII board exams and a few anxious parents were standing outside the school, waiting for their children. Singh appeared to be inebriated and abused the guardians. Within seconds, he whipped out a pistol and fired. Sandeep (17) who had come to meet his aunt, a sweeper in the school, took a bullet in the chest. He died on the spot.
Singh managed to escape but, later, an angry mob blocked the traffic on Amritsar-Jallandhar road to protest against police inaction. An FIR has been lodged.
