Priest dies while performing sorcery

According to preliminary investigations, said the police, the victim died accidentally while performing a ritual to get expertise in black magic and sorcery.

8220;The victim8217;s sister, Sumitra, who stays in Mariumbibi Ni Chali told us that the former aspired to become a tantrik. While leaving for the temple late on Friday, Maharaj told Sumitra that he would practice sorcery that night,8221; said Bapunagar Inspector K P Gajipara.

But when Maharaj did not return that night, Sumitra sent her 10-year-old son to look for him in the temple. The boy returned and said that his uncle was hanging inside the temple. Sumitra rushed to the temple with some of the neighbours and found Maharaj dead. She later filed a complaint with the police.

Gajipara added: 8220;Considering that nothing has been stolen from the temple and that the temple doors were bolted from inside, it seems to be a case of suicide. Some puja material found inside the temple and Sumitra8217;s statement indicate that Maharaj may have killed himself while performing some tantrik rituals. We are, however, yet to ascertain the actual reason behind the incident and investigations are on.8221;
