It was Sharad Pawar who was seen detailing the antecedents of Pratibha Patil to flummoxed UPA leaders. As the drafting of the statement that was to be read out by Sonia Gandhi took some time, UPA leaders turned to each other looking for answers. Many recalled she was Governor of Rajasthan, but beyond that they knew nothing8212;until Pawar intervened helpfully. Patil, he said, was the leader of Opposition when he became the Maharashtra CM for the first time. And since this did not seem grand enough, he embellished Pratibhatai8217;s history saying, 8220;Bahut saaf suthri aur sincere politician hai!8221;
