MUMBAI, OCT 4: Vijay Merchant XI spinners Shakti Prasad and Omkar Khanvilkar spun a web of discomfort around the Khandu Rangnekar XI batsmen on the opening day of the second round matches of the Sportstar Trophy MCA under-19 selection trial cricket tournament.
Left-arm spinner Prasad (4-37) and off-spinner Khanvilkar (3-42) shared seven wickets between them at the Brabourne Stadium to restrict Rangnekar XI to 162. But for No. 8 batsman Amit Kadam (28), Rangnekar XI’s fate would have been worse considering the fact that they were struggling at 118-6 at one stage.
In reply, Merchant XI (30-0) saw the day through without any loss.
Batsmen continued to struggle at the Elf-Vengsarkar Academy too, where overnight dew delayed the contest between Vijay Manjrekar XI and Dattu Phadkar XI by 90 minutes.
Phadkar XI were reduced to 157-8 when stumps were drawn for the day. Skipper Vijay Singh led the fightback with atopscore of 48 runs, inclusive of four boundaries and two sixes.
