PATIALA, June 16: Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) today eased all restrictions imposed on different categories of consumers following an increase in power availability. Incidentally, the board today registered a new record demand of power of 950 lakh units following relaxation of restrictions.According to sources in the power board, the demand for power was 4249 mw this morning as against 4224 mw on the same day last year. Following a crash in the demand of power in Uttar Pradesh following rain in the region, the power system had a above normal frequency with an average of 51.The sources told ENS that the PSEB today supplied power to the agricultural sector for 24 hours barring cases of local constraints. All the six units of the Ropar Thermal Plant (RTP) were functioning today for the first time in the paddy sowing season. With only one unit of the Bathinda Thermal Plant down because of maintenance work, all other three units there were functioning normally. Lehra Mohabat Plant was also generating power normally with the generation there today registered at 125 mw.However, the sources said that the weekly off day fixed for industrial units according to grouping of industrial towns was continuing.
