AMBALA, Oct 8: The Haryana Postal Circle will generate over Rs 56 crore revenue to make it a profit-earning circle in the face of about Rs 7 crore deficit in the year of 1997-98.
The labour-oriented department has not been able to increase the revenues because of huge expenditure on establishment and infrastructure. Stating this at a press conference on the occasion of postal week celebrations to mark World Post Day, T R Sharma, Chief Post Master General, said that through resource mobilisation, the circle would earn profit the tune of Rs 56 crore despite the prevailing revenue proportion of 100:115 till last year.
Sharma said that the Department was successfully operating Postal Life Insurance Scheme for central, state government and public sector undertakings with an annual business of about 28 crore, with more the 50,000 PLI policies. He said that this facility was being extended to rural areas where a business of about Rs 12 crore was targeted for the year 1998-99.
Sharma said it was difficult to promote philately as the younger generation lacked interest in philatelic materials. He said that philatelic centres at over 30 places were functioning in Haryana to popularise philately.
