In his first comments on the removal of four governors yesterday, former prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee here today said the UPA Government’s move has reduced the Governor’s post to that of a daily wage labourer.‘‘Sarkar ne rajyapalon ki stithi dehadi mazdoor jaisi kardi hain (the Government has reduced the governors’ post to that of a daily wage labourer),’’ Vajpayee said while talking to mediapersons soon after his arrival at the Amausi airport here this afternoon.
The former PM, who is here on a two-day visit to his parliamentary constituency, could not hide his anger at the way the ‘‘the governors were dismissed on charges of their links with the RSS’’.
‘‘The Government has not issued a denial so far on reports that the main reason for removal of the governors was their links with the RSS. If the Government thinks this is wrong, the Home Ministry should issue a clarification in this regard. The Government should also apologise to the RSS for its remark,’’ Vajpayee said.
‘‘The BJP will not let the Government go on removing persons at its own will. The governors have a five-year tenure and removing them before their tenure ends would be belittling the President who appointed them,’’ he added.
He also said his party would rake up the issue in Parliament. ‘‘Sarkar ke is raviyan ka BJP her tarah se virod karegi (The BJP will oppose the Government on all fronts on the issue).’’
Dismissed Governor Vishnu Kant Shastri was among those who came to receive Vajpayee at the airport today. The former PM, sources said, has assured Shastri he would meet him on Sunday.
