That politics makes strange bed partners couldn8217;t have been truer than Lalu Prasad Yadav and Mulayam Singh Yadav making common cause in averting early polls. That the RJD chief and his Samajwadi Party counterpart may not be the best of friends is of no significance when the possibility of early general elections is high. Mid-term polls will adversely impact the fortunes of the RJD and SP, so both have high stakes in keeping voting at bay. A practical Lalu, therefore, initiated a dialogue with the SP during the just concluded Monsoon Session of Parliament. First, Lalu8217;s party colleague Raghuvansh Prasad Singh raised the topic with the SP8217;s Amar Singh and sensed an early election was an equally touchy subject with him and his party. With this insight, Lalu is said to have spoken to Mulayam8217;s brother and MP, Ram Gopal Yadav, to take the conversation further on how to avoid polls for the time being. It8217;s not clear what transpired between the two, but the temporary thaw between the two parties on this common issue has not gone unnoticed.
