
VADODARA, AUG 31: In order to prevent trans-border movement of criminals, especially in view of the Lok Sabha elections, the Vadodara rural police from Wednesday would check vehicles entering and going out of those areas located near the Madhya Pradesh border.
According to sources, the decision follows fears that some MP-based criminal gangs could create tension in Vadodara district during elections. Elaborate plans have been made for surveillance and thorough checking of vehicles, said senior police officials.
As a part of the plan, personnel posted in various police stations along the MP border would be assisted by about 50 retired policemen and 40-odd Western Railways8217; policemen.
According to sources, various points along the border have been identified where checking squads would be posted. 8220;More than half-a-dozen points have already been identified where these posts would be set up,8221; officials said.
Besides, officials said, the checking points would act as a deterrent for bootleggers who smuggled in liquor from MP. The checking points would also be equipped with wireless sets to link them up with the nearest police stations, sources said, adding that senior police officials would visit these points frequently.
