The Chhattisgarh Police on Wednesday recovered 23 wireless sets, four bundles of fuse wire, five chargers and extremist literature from a drain in Bhata village near here. IG (Raipur) Y K S Thakur said all articles recovered were meant for Maoist extremists. “A villager informed the police that a gunny bag was lying abandoned in the area. A bomb disposal squad was immediately rushed to the area,” the IG said, claiming that Wednesday’s success can be attributed to the fact that they have increased pressure on the extremists.

On January 22, the police had arrested three alleged Maoists— former journalist Prafull Jha and two women, Malti alias K S Priya and Meena Chaudhary — from the city and recovered a huge cache of arms, including .9-mm pistols, five country-made pistols, Rs 5.11 lakh and a wireless set. The interrogation of the three led to the arrest of an alleged Maoist facilitator, Siddhartha Sharma, on Tuesday night.
