AMBALA, June 23: The Punjab National Bank holds a prestigious position in Haryana with lead banks in 17 of the 19 districts of the state. This was stated by PNB Senior Regional Manager B.P. Chopra after the Deputy Commissioner Navraj Sandhu had inaugurated its new branch near the district courts here yesterday. He said the bank had earned a profit of Rs 501 crore for the financial year 1997-98. The deposits were to the tune of Rs 35,173 crore and advances of Rs 16,043 crore.Lead District Manager V.K. Bakshi earlier, read out a report dwelling on the achievements made in the District. He said that special care had been taken to provide facilities to the customers. The DC lauded the pivotal role played by the PNB in various developmental activities through lead banks at the district headquarters.

No power: The residents of Ambala Cantonment went without electricity on the next day of formal inauguration of the 33 KV Sub Station, which was inaugurated by Power Minister Attar Singh Saini, yesterday. There was no supply from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the main town. The residents blocked the road at Indira chowk last night.
