NEW DELHI, November 23: Delhi zone will try to dominate once again in the 16th all-India inter-zone Punjab National Sports meet, which gets underway at the Karnail Singh Stadium from November 29. Delhi zone had, in the past, won several titles and this year it will be no different. But the athletes are bound to face some resistance from other zones, particularly from the west and the south.

There are about 540 sports persons from 12 different zones are slated to complete in the eight-day event which will be of 11 disciplines. The 11 disciplines include football, cricket, basketball, kabaddi, volleyball, kho-kho, badmintol table tennis and carrom. The athletetics will features on events and this year they have instituted two trophies for the runners-up positions which the zones finished second in team events and athletics events will receive. This is besides the rolling championship trophies. The basketball events, which will be held at the Kirori Mal College courts, will be played under lights.

National billiards
The Delhi Billiards and Snooker Association will conduct the 65th senior and 23rd junior nationals at IIT Haus Khaz from January 2 to 30. It will also host the women’s nationals concurrently, according to Ravi K Tandon, secretary of the Delhi association. Meghalaya will be participating in the event for the first time.

P & O Travels win
P&O Travels won the Jet Airways six-a-side title defeating Travels Sports Club of India by 20 runs. Vinod Kumar (36) and Mahesh Kumar (25) were the main scorers for the winners. In the semi-final, Travels Sports Club of India prevailed over IND Travels by five runs reach in the final while P&O Travels triumphed over hosts Jet Airways by six runs.
