SHIMLA, May 17: The district administration has drawn up a new plan to remove congestion on heavy traffic routes in the town and to regulate it in an effective manner, particularly during the tourist season.

The new arrangements would, however, continue even after the tourist rush is over.

The plan was finalised at a high-level meeting held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Manisha Shridhar. Superintendent of Police, Shimla, A. N. Sharma and other officers looking after the traffic system were also present.

According to the notification issued by the district magistrate, the route from Chota Shimla to Kasumpti via Brock House would now be a one-way traffic route.

Shridhar said all heavy vehicles, HRTC and local private buses and pick-up vans plying on the said route would now ply from the bus stand to Kasumpti via Khilini Chowk, SDA complex and would terminate at Pantha Ghatti. Buses originating from Pantha Ghatti would ply via Kasumpti to Chota Shimla-Khilini and to the bus stand.

Small vehicles, including cars, jeeps, ambulances and fire brigade vehicles could also ply between Chota Shimla and Kasumpti as usual on both ways.She said that all long-route HRTC and private buses coming from Arki Nalagarh, Chandigarh and Summer Hill side which were terminated at bus stand shall now be plied on the bye-pass via Tutikandi-Khilini to bus stand.Tourists buses en route to Sanjauli and Dhalli would now ply from bus stand to Sanjauli via Victory Tunnel and would terminate at bye-pass via Chota Shimla, Khilini Chowk to bye-pass where a parking place has been marked for them.

Buses coming from Lakkar Bazar side which terminate at the bus stand would come to bus stand via Tutikandi Khilni. This restriction would not be applicable to local buses plying on these routes.

With a view to streamlining traffic arrangements at Kasumpti, the present taxi stand has been ordered to be shifted to the parking place in SDA complex in front of PNB.

Parking places for HRTC buses tourists buses have been marked at a number of places between the bye-pass and proposed Inter-State-Bus Terminus ISBT Tutikandi Chowk and Ramnagar, Ramnagar Nala point below lift, Nala Bridge and Link Road to CPRI Bamloi, and between CPRI Bamboi to the place below Heritage Inn Hotel, Khilini.
