MUMBAI, SEPT 10: Pivotals moved narrowly in dull and lacklusture trading on the Bombay Stock Exchange BSE today in the absence of buying support in the last day of the current settlement. Most of the operators were busy squaring up their positions ahead of three consecutive holidays from Saturday on account of general elections on September 11 and Ganesh Chaturthi8217; on September 13.

Sensex sensitive index moved between 4776.84 and 4746.54 before closing at 4760.21, showing a minor loss of 4.38 points from the previous close of 4764.59. The BSE-100 index declined marginally by 0.65 point to 2137.56 against the previous close of 2138.21.

Brokers said auto major TELCO posted handsome gains while there was not much activity witnessed in other prominent counters. Trading on the BSE ended earlier at 2 pm to facilitate quot;badla trading sessionquot;. Institutional business was also negligible. Foreign institutional investors FIIs picked up select software counters and Reliance. Indian financial institutions IFIs were also buyers in Reliance, HPCL and pharmaceutical shares.

Of the total 149 specified scrips, 112 declined while 34 gained and three remained steady. Apollo Tyre and Ashok Leyland were locked at the day8217;s best level after exhausting the daily permissible limit. Ranbaxy was the most active with a turnover of Rs 169.63 crore of the total volume of business of Rs 1721.78 crore.

Ranbaxy eased by Rs 3.25 to Rs 1100 on profit taking.Hindustan Lever declined by Rs 3.35 to Rs 2621.65 and ITC by Rs 4 to Rs 969. However, Reliance edged up by 15 P to Rs 198.80. Zee Telefilms firmed up by Rs 23 to Rs 3203, Satyam Computer by Rs 12 to Rs 909, TELCO by Rs 9 to Rs 308 and Infosys Technologies by Rs 115 to Rs 6020.
