Jaipur, March 23: Will the Indore fiasco repeat itself here at the Sawai Man Sigh Stadium tommorrow? It should not, by a long way, but still the pitch here has generated considerable amount of interest after it took three visits by a BCCI Grounds and Pitches Committee representative to get it cleared for international action.

Interestingly, not a single official match has been played here since the top layer of the surface was creamed off to plant fresh grass early in January. According to a BCCI source, when the Grounds and Pitches Committee representative Daljit Singh came here on his first inspection visit on January 23, the surafce was 8220;like a wrestling pit8221;.

Then, the stadium, which is not under the Rajasthan Cricket Association8217;s control, was taken over by the local administration for the Republic Day celebrations. The after-effects were quite predictable as RCA officials struggled to get things done in time for Daljit Singh8217;s second visit in the first week of March. According to the source, thegreen signal was again kept pending as conditions were not quite up to the mark.

Finally, the three strips in the 30-yard centre area were rolled into order beofre Daljit8217;s third visit but doubts lingered over two of the surfaces, including the one on which tommorrow8217;s match is to be played. According to the source, 8220;the pitches look good but their behaviour could not be judged until there was play on it8221;. So, a bunch of local cricketres were quickly roped in and asked to go through the motions for close to three hours till the 8220;all clear8221; was sounded.y
