Rail traffic was worst-hit at Phagwara due to the farmers8217; agitation. Nearly 400 farmers blocked the railway track by sitting on the tracks in the morning. They were still blocking rail traffic at the time of filing of this report, despite efforts made by the Kapurthala DC and SSP. When the authorities tried to force the farmers to lift their dharna, they threatened to pelt them with stones lying on the rail track.

Thousands of passengers were seen at Jalandhar railway station trying to get refunds. 8220;We were to go to Mumbai to attend a function, but had to get our tickets cancelled at the last minute,8221; said Jatinder Kaur of Jalandhar.

8220;I had to join duty back in Bangalore on Monday, but now I have no other option but to go by air after taking a road route to Delhi,8221; said Anuj Sharma, an IT professional.
