
MUMBAI, Oct 7: Dattu Phadkar XI fought back with a gusty seventh wicket partnership on the second day of their Sportstar Trophy MCA Under-19 Selection Tournament match against Khandu Rangnekar XI at the Brabourne Stadium today.
In a match where first innings points are all to play for, Phadkar XI did their cause plenty of good by continuing today. From a dangerous 112 for six overnight, opener Vinayak Mane teamed up with Yogesh Kaudhare to put up 99 for seventh wicket and Phadkar XI finished with 242 in first innings.
Mane, who had batted doggedly yesterday and today, was extremely unlucky to miss out on a century, being run out for 94 238 balls, 5215;4. Kaudhare was an ideal foil to Mane and scored an aggressive 58 77 balls, 5215;4, 2215;6, before he fell to Sameer Bandarkar, the off-spinner claiming all three wickets to fall today.
Bandarkar finished with five for 55 and Musaveer Khote, who had done all the damages yesterday had four for 48.
Chasing five first inning points, Rangnekar XI foundthemselves in some trouble by stumps having got to 107 for four. The openers were gone with 25 on the board and only captain Samrat Chitre was able to make an impression remaining unbeaten on 43 at the close.
For Phadkar XI off-spinner Viraj Pai continue on his wicket-taking ways, with two for 26.
At the ELF Vengsarkar Academy, the match between Vijay Manjrekar XI and Vijay Merchant XI began today after the first days play was abandoned yesterday.
Vijay Manjrekar XI, put into bat by the opposition, made the most of their chance piling up 293-8 before declaring the innings leaving Merchant XI three overs of batting. Manjrekar XI struck immediately in the second over leaving Merchant XI at four for one at stumps.
Manjrekar XI batsmen had a good day in the middle, with the consistent Sushant Manjrekar producing yet another good innings after openers Ashutosh Narkar 41, 63 balls, 3215;4, 1215;6 and Sudesh Naik 59, 115 balls, 6215;4, 1215;6 had given the innings a confident start.
Manjrekar top scored with 8595 balls, 6215;4, 1215;6 for Merchant XI. Left-arm spinner Mandar Deorukhkar, who had claimed three for 77 and medium-pacer Sachin Sawant two for five held up well in the face of the batting assault from the Manjrekar XI batsmen.
