SURAT, Jan 17: A permanent lok adalat was inaugurated at room no 4 on the fifth floor of the District Court premises in Athwa Lines on Saturday by G K Chaudhary, in-charge director, District Legal Services and Aid Authority.

Surat district is one of the five chosen by the Gujarat State Legal Services and Aid Authority to set up a permanent lok adalat.

The Legal Services and Aid Authority oversees organising of lok adalats to speed up the legal process in pending cases.

Addressing the gathering, Chaudhary said judges, advocates and parties to a case should ensure that justice was delivered and quickly enough. He said speedy disposal of case was the sole purpose of introducing the system a few years ago.

Retired District Judge and former chairman of the Consumer Grievances Forum N K Desai, social worker Sudha Trivedi will render their services at the permanent lok adalat, that has been set up on an experimental basis.

A District Legal Services statement said the adalat would meet on working Saturdays of the month and will address all cases pending in lok adalats of the district. It has appealed to the citizens to make use of the opportunity and asked advocated to assist in the process.
