Save Bond island

Thai conservation officials have banned boats from mooring off an island featured in a 1974 James Bond film in an attempt to protect the tourist spot from erosion. Phangnga Gulf National Park officials issued the decree amid fears that wash from pleasure craft could destroy Koh Tapu, known as James Bond island after it featured in the movie Man with the Golden Gun, the Bangkok Post reported. National Park chief Siriwat Paopongsa said boat operators who fail to use piers provided on the limestone island will be arrested and face harsh punishment.

Woman in a boat

A woman who made history by becoming the first female commander of a British Royal Navy warship crashed her vessel just 10 days after taking charge, the British press reported on Friday. Lieutenant Sue Moore, 29, was red-faced after her ship, the fast patrol boat HMS Dasher, collided with a sister ship as it tried to berth at Guernsey harbour in the Channel Islands. A Navyspokesman said that Moore8217;s 49-tonne 21-metre boat was not damaged in the collision, but HMC Puncher suffered minor damage. 8220;We are working in a dynamic environment where things like this happen. It is not all that unusual,8221; he said. Moore was selected for the post after competing against male colleagues.
