The chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee Sen Carl Levin said on Friday he would ask Stephen J Hadley, the national security adviser, and I Lewis Libby, former chief of staff for Vice President Dick Cheney, to testify about a report by the Pentagon8217;s inspector general that criticises the Pentagon for compiling 8220;alternative intelligence8221; that made the case for invading Iraq by fabricating links between al-Qaeda and Saddam Hussein.

It was not clear whether Hadley and Libby would testify. The White House normally resists testimony by top aides before Congress.
