MUMBAI, Aug 16: Third seed Arun S Pandit ELO 2190 and seventh-seeded Girish Chandnani are jointly leading with five points each after winning all their five rounds, at the end of the first day of the Open Rapid chess tournament, conducted by the Gokuldham Chess Club, on Sunday.

A total number of 84 players, including six rated players, are taking part in the championship.

Top-seeded Ketan Boricha ELO 2225 was upset by Suhas Pednekar in the third round.

Ketan Boricha ELO 2225, VKN Solanki ELO 2195, AL Gadi Gaonkar ELO 2160, Prasad V Ghate ELO 2070 and Dinesh Bhandarkar ELO 2045 are among the 12 players who are in the second position with four points.

The next four rounds will be held on Sunday, August 23.

Adarsh prevail

Adarsh Sport Club prevailed 2-1 over Bad Boys Club in Pool A of the First Division football league, conducted by the MDFA, at the St Xavier8217;s ground, Parel, today.

Kiran Purbin and Manish Solanki netted for Adarsh. Don Barry reduced the margin for BadBoys.
