PDS revamp

NEW DELHI, JANUARY 13: THE Government today announced revamping of the Public Distribution System PDS by conferring social audit powers on Panchayati Raj institutions to make the system more target-oriented and prevent diversion of commodities supplied under it.

Under a six-point strategy drawn up by the Government, Panchayati Raj Institutions PRIs will ensure consumers8217; right to information regarding stock availability, entitlement and price, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Minister Shanta Kumar told reporters.
