PCs in hand, Gurgaon cops to issue traffic challans on spot

Traffic defaulters would be given computerised smart challans instead of handwritten challans as traffic police personnel will now be provided with hand computers with thermal printer.

Gurgaon has become the first city in the region to begin online traffic challaning system, city Police Commissioner Mohinder Lal said on Tuesday. With Gurgaon Police completed one year under the commissionerate system on Tuesday. Under the new system, the police chief said, traffic defaulters would be given computerised smart challans instead of handwritten challans as traffic police personnel will now be provided with hand computers with thermal printer.

Result: challans, from now on, would be issued on the spot.

The computer, with data of regular defaulters, would have in-built modem to enable it to connect with the central server through GPRS. He said the Haryana Police has also started an SMS facility at 9717595423 for Gurgaon residents for quick registration of complaints.

The informer’s name would be kept confidential, he said.
