PUNE, JUNE 11: In a major anti-encroachment action, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation PCMC dislodged 46 families who had illegally occupied the tenements at the Bhatnagar slum project at Pimpri.

It was the first such action against illegal occupants at the slum project which was completed in 1991. The action was carried out amidst heavy police security.

The occupants were asked to produce photo-passes issued to original slum dwellers who have been rehabilitated in the scheme. The action was supervised by city engineer S D Garade, Tanaji Shinde. Assistant commissioner of police C H Wakde and PI Shrikant Patil led a team of 76 policemen.
