
CHANDIGARH, Dec 20: The two-day cricket trials for selection of Punjab under-14 probables, who will undergo an off-season coaching-cum-practice camp next summer, concluded at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in S.A.S.Nagar near here today.
Around 120 cricketers from the various affiliate district-units of PCA turned up for the trials. Each unit had been asked to send five to seven boys for trials. Around 30 probables will be called for the camp, which is proposed to be held after the annual exams of the boys are over April-May.
Apart from that, 30 probables will also be selected for another camp on similar lines at the Dhruve Pandove Trust at Patiala.
Khanna hails
Punjab Olympic Association general secretary Arvind Khanna congratulated the Indian men8217;s hockey team for winning the Asian Games gold medal after a gap of 32 years. 8220;The victory assumed more significance after our loses at the Utrecht World Cup and Commonwealth Games earlier this year,8221; said Khanna in a press released issued today.
8220;Other medallists including Jyotirmoyee Sikdar, Dingko Singh, Geeta Sethi and Ashok Shandilya also deserved full praise,8221; said Khanna.
Meanwhile, Ropar Hawks has decided to honour the Indian hockey players for winning gold medal. This was announced by Ropar Hawks secretary SS Saini. Last night the Ropar Hawks celebrated the victory by distributing sweets and illuminating the club in Ropar.
