S.A.S. NAGAR, Sept 5: The Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in S.A.S. Nagar may be deprived of the chance of holding the first Test of the forthcoming India-New Zealand series October 10-14. The reason: The host, PCA, dooes not think it is quot;financially viable to hold the Test in the absence of exemption of entertainment tax levied by the Punjab Governmentquot;.

The exceutive committee of the association, which met here yesterday to discuss the modalities of staging the Test, decided to seek the Punjab Chief Minister, Prakash Singh Badal8217;s help over the matter. A deputation has already apprised the CM of the problem.

According to the PCA secretary, M P Pandove, if the government is quot;unrelenting, the association will have no option than to forgo the match or shift it neighbouring Chandigarh. The association alleges that the state government is yet to renew the policy on entertainment tax which lapsed in 1995. There was a provision for exemption of entertainment tax on such events under that. quot;No other state levies such duty on sports events organised by national and international federations, quot; according to Pandove.

Accordingly, the district associations will run their own coaching centres at their level in the district headquarters. PCA will help the district associations in the form of equipment and other assistance.

The committee also the annual report and balance sheet. Punjab8217;s performance at various age group levels came in for special mention and praise.
