Despite being served advisory letters and subsequent meetings with Vice-Chancellor M S Kang, the PAU Non-Teaching Employees’ Union today held their rally on the campus. Though a majority of their demands have been accepted and implemented, the staff said that the rally was held to ‘get across the message’.Registrar Dr R K Mahey had called upon PAU NonTeaching Employees’ Union president Harbans Singh Mundi and informed him that the V-C had rolled back his decision of appointing a teacher as his secretary and that the charge has now been given to Nahoria Singh, a non-teaching employee in the Dean Basic Sciences office. “We decided to go ahead with the rally as our two main demands — appointment of secretary to Vice-Chancellor (SVC) and withdrawing of the advisory letter — have already been accepted. But the other demands are pending. We have been told that these demands will be taken to the board of management and will also be accepted soon.”Owing to pressure from non-teaching employees, Dr Kang had withdrew the advisory letters sent out to various heads of departments and had even requested the non-teaching union not to hold the rally. The union had stuck to their guns claiming that the V-C still had to take a call on SVC.While appointing Dr P P S Lubana as his SVC, the V-C said, “I have the right to chose my SVC.” However, when the non-teaching employees mounted pressure and demanded that this post be held by their cadre, the V-C bowed to their pressure.
