To keep the campus garbage-free, I have tied up with the Department of Soil, College of Agriculture, PAU, which will install a machine to convert garbage into compost. At present, we convert the garbage into compost by putting it in pits, but the process takes at least six months. These machines will complete the process in just a month
Dr Gurkirpal Singh
Punjab Agricultural University PAU Vice-Chancellor Dr Manjit Singh Kang has finally cleared the controversy over the sudden change in the post of Estate Officer-cum-Chief Engineer of the university.
In October this year, Dr Kang had taken away the post of Estate Officer from Dr V K Sehgal, who is also the research co-ordinator in College of Agricultural Engineering, and handed it over to Dr Gurkirpal Singh, Director Farms, PAU.
Dr Kang said: 8220;Post this change, the campus looks much more cleaner than before. It is for all to see. Dr Sehgal was informed about the condition of the campus many a times, but very little work was done in this regard.8221;
Notable here is the fact that Dr Kang has clicked pictures of garbage littered all over the campus and showed them at a meeting of all Deans and Directors.
When contacted, Dr Gurkirpal Singh, who has been credited with the task of cleaning up the huge campus, said: 8220;I am in charge of the farms and know that if we postpone cleaning for one day, the garbage piles up and it becomes very difficult to change the situation. In order to keep the campus garbage-free, I have tied up with the department of Soil, College of Agriculture, PAU, which will install a machine to convert the garbage into compost. At present, we convert the garbage into compost by putting it in pits, but the process takes at least six months. These machines, however, will complete the process in just a month.8221;
Dr Singh said: 8220;The Landscape department has been attached with the
Estate Office now. With this, its much easier for me to beautify the campus.8221;
