MUMBAI, APRIL 6: A young man attacked a doctor with a chopper last evening at Kandivali East after his wife was allegedly molested by the doctor and all his attempts to lodge a complaint with the Samata Nagar police failed.
The youth identified as Baban Rokade has been arrested, while the doctor Chandrakant Patel, who has suffered serious head injuries, has been admitted to the KEM hospital. Samata Nagar police said they were trying to find out why Baban8217;s complaint was not lodged on Monday provoking him to attack Patel.
Nirmala Rokade, a resident of Damu Nagar in Kandivali East, developed stomach ache last month and decided to see a local medical practitioner Dr Chandrakant Patel, who has his clinic in the same area. The doctor prescribed her some medicines and asked her come back after a couple of days.
On Monday Nirmala visited the doctor again. This time she was accompanied by her grandmother, who was asked to wait outside the doctor8217;s room. Inside, while pretending to examine her, Dr Patelallegedly made her take off some of her clothes and then tried to molest her.
On returning home, Nirmala narrated the incident to her husband. Baban immediately reported the matter to Samata Nagar police station. However, the police without lodging a complaint against Dr Patel, called him to the police station detained him for a few hours and then let him go.
Dejected by the uncooperative attitude of the police, an angry Baban decided to teach the doctor a lesson. Yesterday evening, he waited for the doctor outside his dispensary hiding a chopper under his shirt. As soon as the doctor emerged from his clinic, Baban lunged at him hitting him on the head with the chopper. Baban then went straight to the police station and surrendered himself to the duty officer, who charged him with an attempt to murder.
Deputy Police Commissioner Zone X Kiran Shelar when contacted today could not explain why the Samata Nagar had not filed a complaint against the doctor. He said an internal inquiry is on to find out thetruth.
