IF I HAD NOT BEEN MAKING MOVIES, I8217;d definitely have been an architect. I have always enjoyed creating something from nothing. When I see blank walls, rooms and spaces, I am actually seeing possibilities, visualising what I can do with them. My hands itch to do up new houses. I have a very definite visual sense. I love interiors, spaces and designs. I am passionate about textures, materials and walls.
The thought of using and designing empty spaces gives me a high. Inside my mind are colours and textures, waiting to create harmony.
You can see a reflection of my passion in all my films8212;from Khamoshi to Devdas. In my movies, the interiors get maximum importance. I8217;m always preoccupied with the way a set looks. The way materials transform interiors and walls to pro-duce ambience fascinates me. I8217;ve done up my house myself and keep changing it. I love rearranging things to see the way it transforms a room. Every few days, you8217;ll find my house looking different.
The moment I enter a room, I start wondering about changing its look by rear-ranging things. I am not even conscious of this interior designing that goes on in my mind. Simply put, my mind keeps me alive by visualising things.
