The Kerala CPIM on Wednesday resolved to have a set of 8220;special guidelines8221; for the functioning of the V S Achuthanandan Government. The decision came at the end of two days of discussions over the working report at the party8217;s state committee meeting.
The conference committee chairman and LDF covenor Vaikom Vishwan said these guidelines would draw from the party8217;s experiences of being in power for about a couple of years now. Vishwan maintained that one of the 8220;general thrusts8221; of the closed-door discussion was that the VS Government8217;s performance was 8220;satisfactory, but with room for improvement8221;.
Vishwan also claimed that several delegates, speaking in the session, had underlined the need for unity in the party. The speakers, Vishwan said, condemned the 8220;smokescreen of controversies8221;, which he said had robbed the sheen of the VS Government8217;s 8220;many achievements8221;. The party resolution also voiced its concern over 8220;attempts to keep away investors from the state8221;, and urged partymen to expose the real designs of the communal and casteist forces.
During the day, Prakash Karat chaired a meeting of the Politburo members, currently at Kottayam, including VS and Vijayan, to assess the developments at the conference. The Politburo is learnt to have earlier conveyed its decision to make immediate interventions, in case the crucial state party elections, slated for Thursday, violates its anti-faction guidelines.
