After a hiatus of two years, Amar Upadhyay returns to television
Dead men tell no tales — so goes the saying. But Amar Upadhyay aka Mihir Virani’s death in the TV serial Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi definitely did. Not only did he have the whole nation glued to the soap but had thousands pleading for his return from the grave. But Upadhyay disappeared soon after, to try his luck in Bollywood. After a few years of struggle, he is back where he belongs.
“I had never bid goodbye to television. I was just waiting for the right role to come to me. I wanted to experiment with newer roles and I wanted to avoid saas bahu serials completely,” says the actor who will now be seen playing a key role in the serial Chaand Ke Paar Chalo on NDTV Imagine.
In the new show, Upadhyay plays the role of Ravi Oberoi, owner of a leading fashion magazine in the serial. “I play a shrewd businessman who simply loves money and power. His only motive is to expand his company,” he says. “But I do not play a negative character. I totally adore my younger brother and I do not come in the way of others,” he adds.
Right now, he has just one serial in his kitty, but he is definitely not averse to working with Ekta Kapoor yet again. “I would be stupid not to work with Ekta. I really admire her as a producer and I would definitely say yes if she offered me a role in one of her serials. After all, she was the one who made Mihir Virani a household name,” he says.
It isn’t goodbye to Bollywood as yet, either. “I am doing a film called It’s My Life with Harman Baweja and another thriller called 13B with R Madhavan and Meera Vasudevan,” he adds.
