AHMEDABAD, June 2: Second seed Valay Parikh lifted the under-14 boys8217; trophy, while under-14 girls8217; title was won by K Preethi from Tamil Nadu at the Centurion Bank 11th National Chess Championships for under-12 and 14 played at the Indian Institute of Management IIM Hall here today.

In under-14 boys8217; category, the second position went to top seed M R Venkatesh from Tamil Nadu with 7.5 points while Soumya Ranjan Mishra Ori got the third rank with seven points.

In the under-14 girls8217; section, third seeded T S Subhashini CCA got the runner-up position with seven points with better progressive score of 35.5/34 against fifth seeded Ananya Sarkar WB who, with seven points with progressive score of 35.5/33.5, was pushed down to third spot.

First and second position achievers in all the groups will represent the nation at the World Chess championships of their respective group to be held at Spain later during the year. In game two, much famed and fifth seeded Ananya Sarkar GNCA, playing with whitepieces, outclassed lowly ranked N Sandhya Ker, playing with black pieces, in French Defence game.

In the early stage of opening, Sandhya made some tempo losing moves, which allowed Ananya to create a weakness on E6 in black8217;s camp. This tactic gave her good attacking chances. Later, Sandhya made one more positional error which only made Ananya8217;s task easier and allowed her to score a full point.

This win gave third spot to Ananya in final standing with tally of seven points against her name while despite of her loss, Sandhya got the fourth position with 6.5 points.
