PUNE, June 26: The State Government on Friday appointed Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Pravinsinh Pardeshi as chairman of the Pimpri-Chinchwad New Township Development Authority (PCNTDA).

Pardeshi, also the vice-chairman of the PCNTDA, will hold temporary charge as its chairman following controversial chairman Agasti Kanitkar’s decision to proceed on leave. Kanitkar who has been served with a show-cause notice by the State Urban Development department asking why he should not be removed from the post has submitted a letter to the government stating that he would not be able to attend PCNTDA office until July 25 for “personal reasons.”

The show-cause notice comes in the wake of the enquiry conducted by Pune Divisional Commissioner Arun Bhatia.

A freedom fighter from Chinchwad Ramchandra Deshmukhe had filed a petition in the Bombay High Court demanding action against Kanitkar for his alleged malpractices and misuse of office at PCNTDA. The court had directed the government to conduct an enquiry into the allegations.

Following submission of the enquiry report, Deshmukhe had made a plea to suspend Kanitkar.

However, the government said that there was no provision in the rules for the suspension. It assured that it would initiate action on its own.

Meanwhile, PCNTDA officers indicted in the enquiry report would be served with show-cause notices tomorrow asking why they should not be removed from their posts, PCNTDA chief executive officer B E Nagrale said today.

“The administration should also clarify as to whether it intends to raise the water cess substantially to mop up funds for the project?,” Kalmadi demanded.

He said that he has already held talks with State Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Nitin Gadkari who has chalked out a plan to construct 17 fly over’s in Pune and neighbouring Pimpri-Chinchwad. “Considering this project the PMC should set aside funds for roads too,” he said.

He also demanded the civic administration to speed up the process for releasing the Rs 200 crore private placement PMC bonds. Agarwal assured that the bonds would be released before October this year, he said.
