Oct 1: A hundred in an encounter that serves as a selection trial for picking up the Indian team should do any batsman proud. But not Jatin Paranjpe.
The 25-year-old Mumbai southpaw, who raked up his second hundred in as many matches notching 113 against Rest of India in the Irani Trophy at the Wankhede Stadium today, was, in fact, feeling guilty about letting his team down!
8220;With about 30-odd minutes left, I should have hung on there and seen the day through. We could have been in a much better position,8221; he said wistfully.
He was also candid in his admission that it was not the best knock of his first-class career. 8220;I don8217;t rate this knock very highly,8221; he remarked, adding, 8220;the hundred in the Ranji final last season was better.8221;
On the large dosage of sixes with which he treated the crowd, the son of famous coach Vasu Paranjpe, explained: 8220;With the track offering slow turn to the spinners, stroke making was difficult, which was against my style of play. In effect, it ruled out the shots that I normally love to, resulting in a waiting game. And whenever the ball was tossed up I decided to go over the top.8221;
