During the Kargil conflict, he had sustained serious injuries in shelling on the Indo-Pak border in November 1999 and later underwent treatment at Pune Army hospital for two years. He became paralysed as he had sustained spinal chord injuries. Subsequently, he retired on medical grounds from the Army. He was the sole bread winner of his ten-member family who is surviving on his pension.

Raipur District Collector Sonmoni Borah said Anant did not get ex-gratia from the chief minister8217;s Kargil relief fund as he could not register himself earlier with the state Sainik Welfare Board. After undergoing treatment at Army hospital in Pune, Anant was brought by his relatives to his native village where he is still bedridden.
