CHANDIGARH, Sept 22: The Punjab Agro Industries Corporation PAIC has signed a memorandum of understanding with Majestic Group of Industries, to set up a unit for dehydration, canning and bottling of fruits and vegetables at Madhopur village in Dera Bassi.

The unit will process around 7,500 tonnes of vegetables including peas, carrots, cauliflower, potato, capsicum, mushroom, onion, garlic and fruits like apples, grapes, apricots and mangoes. The project, which will generate direct and indirect employment for over 500 people, will cost around Rs 6.6 crore.

The PAIC has signed another MoU with Rajan Mittal, managing director, Punjab Breeders Limited, Rajpura, for setting up a Poultry Technology Park in Punjab at a capital cost of Rs 14 crore. It will be a joint sector project. According to a spokesperson, the facility would be the first of its kind in Punjab and would include integrated high-tech broiler farms, captive feed mill, poultry equipment assembly line, egg grading and a medicine manufacturing facility. This unit would also generate direct and indirect employment for over 500 people.
