Paddy purchase to begin today

SANGRUR, Sept 14: Government agencies would begin purchase of paddy from tomorrow in the mandis of the district. As many as 235 purchase centres have been set up in the district and all necessary arrangements have been made, Deputy Commissioner Anirudh Tiwari said while addressing the fifth Sangat Darshan at Pakko Kalan village, in Barnala sub-division, today. A control room has been set up in the office of the District Food and Supplies Controller Telephone No 34051 which will be operative round-the-clock for the redressal of farmers8217; problems.

Tiwari said that 14,000 pension cases have been disposed of under the old-age pension scheme while the remaining cases would be taken care of on a priority basis.

The DC also announced a grant of Rs 1 lakh for the construction of a school building, Rs 25,000 for a dharamshala and Rs 20,000 for common toilets in the village.
