PUNE, May 6: A Pune-based team of Ravi Kanitkar and Sandeepa Inamdar have bagged this year8217;s outstanding invention award instituted by the National Research Development Corporation. Kanitkar is managing director and Inamdaar is technical director of Kumar Krishimitra Bioproducts I Pvt Ltd, which is a pioneer in the field of biofertilizers. The award is for their invention and patented technology for biofertilizers.

The award will be presented on May 11, the National Technology Day in Delhi by Dr Murli Manohar Joshi, minister for science and technology and HRD.

The technology developed by Kumar Krishimitra is a bio-inoculant in liquid form with plurality of strains used as soil application or biofoliar sprays for augmentation of crop yield. This technology enables manufacture of stable liquid biofertilizers. The company has already acquired an Indian patent for the product and is in the process of acquiring an patent in the US.

The cash award of Rs one lakh is given to individual inventions which are proved to be workable, advantageous, useful and commercially viable. The products developed by Kumar Krishimitra on the basis on this technology is being used widely in Maharashtra under the brand names Bioplin, Vitormone and Phosfert.
