"I feel like I have been living in Andheri all my life. It is my home," says actor Rohit Roy of Baat Ban Jaye fame. Living near Tarapore Gardens, Oshiwara, this small-town boy from Ahmedabad came to Mumbai five years back looking for fame and fortune. Rohit took to Mumbai like fish to water. And Mumbai accepted him with open arms, what with the recent success of the English play Unfaithful, where he plays the unfaithful husband. Besides directing Baat Ban Jaye, Rohit has started his own serial which will soon be aired on Zee TV.
A food freak, all of Rohit’s favourite places in Mumbai, predictably, are eating joints. "I just cannot resist good food," he says. El Mexicana and Trattoria at The President are places he frequents these days. But there are some old favourites as well. Dating back to the time when Rohit was a wannabe. He stayed with his aunt in Juhu and loved to eat at the andawala standing right across the lane in the evening. "He was more like a surrogate mother to allof us. Even when I had no money I could go and eat there. That’s one place I will never give up," he says. Even now he drives down there in the evening, to feast on omelette-pav sitting in his car. "When we had a little more money we would go to Shiv Sagar at Juhu. Both these places were good and cheap."
