
LONDON, Oct 19: Mark O8217;Meara leapfrogged David Duval to number two in the world today after his thrilling World Matchplay victory over Tiger Woods at the weekend.
The 41-year-old pipped Woods, ranked number one, at the last hole at Wentworth yesterday to add the matchplay title to the US Masters and British Open Titles he has won this year.
Duval had declined a matchplay invitation so he could defend US Tour titles in his attempt to head the money list which he currently leads with some 2,480,000 US dollars about Rs 10.6 crore.
This year O8217;Meara has saved his best for the big events and said after winning the matchplay: 8220;I have never thought about becoming number one 8211; I8217;ve just tried to be the best player I can be.8221;
But he added: 8220;If I8217;m fortunate to win the tour championship in a couple of weeks, that might change everything.8221;
