
PUNE, April 8: Popular Vee Jay-turned-singer Javed Jaferi was represented by lawyers Shrikant Shivade and Girish Kulkarni in a case accusing him of obscenity for the song Mumbai in the film Bombay Boys, in the court of the Judicial Magistrate First Class, Vadgaon Maval, today.
The judge had found a prima facie case under section 292 of the Indian Penal Code and has given another day for the hearing. Shakil Rajabhai Sheikh, a Pune businessman, has filed the complaint alleging that the song is obscene and punishable with two years imprisonment under section 292 of the Indian Penal Code.
The co-lyricist of the song Kiran Kotrial and vice-president of BMG Crescendo India Ltd, Anil Prabhu, distributors of the cassette, have also been named in the complaint. According to Sheikh, he purchased a cassette of the song and found it to contain words that were 8220;bad, vulgar, filthy and obscene. This song cannot be heard in public places or even amongst family members in a gathering or a party8221;.
