Obscene ad under fire

PUNE, Nov 17: Patit Pawan Sanghatana here today held demonstrations to protest against an obscene advertisement released in the UK by United Distillers and Vinters (UDV), the producers of Smirnoff Vodka. The advertisement had shown the map of India in the crotch of a woman.

A statement issued by PPS organiser Sandeep Khardekar has said that they have withdrawn its stir after the UDV’s western Maharashtra’s sales manager Ashu Kaul here submitted the company’s clarification and apology. However, considering the gravity of the incident, the PPS has appealed to Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Gopinath Munde to lodge an offence against the company and if needed, ban its sales.
