PATIALA, Oct 13: A group of 30 staff nurses from different districts of Punjab, who had been deputed here on a six-week training course by the Punjab Health Systems Corporation, staged a demonstration here today at the nursing school hostel protesting against the inadequate board and lodging arrangements made in the nursing hostel for them.
Jiwan Preet Kaur, president of the Punjab Nurses Association PNA said that the nurses had reported for duty on October 6 in pursuance of government orders. The training course was being organised by the Punjab Health Systems Corporation.
She said that on their arrival here the nurses were shocked to find that no proper arrangement had been made for their stay and for their food. While some occupied rooms in guest houses, others had to stay put with their relatives. A paltry sum of Rs 15, she said, had been decided to be paid to each trainee by way of daily allowance and there was no provision for dinner and breakfast to the trainees.
The PNA leader said that 17 nurses had been lodged in one dilapidated room at the back of the staff nurses hostel. The PNA had taken up the matter with Minister of State for Health Inderjit Singh Zira who had in turn spoken to the managing director of the corporation. The MD had spoken to the medical college authorities to make suitable arrangements for the stay of the trainees.
