
SARS patient Stanley D8217;Silva8217;s maternal uncle Joseph Pawar today tested positive for the coronavirus. Pawar was shifted to the Naidu Infectious Diseases Hospital NIDH this evening after National Institute of Virology experts reported presence of coronavirus in his blood.
8216;8216;We shifted Pawar to NIDH as a precautionary measure though he did not show any symptoms of fever or cold. He could be a carrier, though not a patient,8217;8217; Deputy Director, Health, B.P. Gaikwad said. The blood tests of three others from the family were negative, while the status of one is still awaited.

Another suspected case in Delhi

| NEW DELHI: A 56-year-old woman travelling by Air France flight AFI-48 was suspected of having SARS and was admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, Delhi. The women, a US citizen, had reported SARS symptoms while on board. 8216;8216;She was in close contact with people suspected of SARS in Atlanta,8217;8217; sources said. Airport health officials were called to disinfect the aircraft. Officials have taken the contact numbers of her fellow passengers. ENS |
Meanwhile, 15 more persons including two taxi drivers from Ambernath 8212; Khwaja Hussain Shaikh and Sameer Bhalchandra Gupte 8212; and their families have been quarantined. While Shaikh and Gupte have been moved to the Kasturba Hospital in Mumbai, the rest have been confined to their house, he said.
An air-conditioning mechanic from Kuwait, Pawar was in close contact with Stanley since he arrived from Jakarta on April 8. He travelled with Stanley along with his mother and sister 8212; who are also SARS patients 8212; in the same car. He was with Stanley when the latter was admitted to the Siddharth Hospital here.
Others from the quarantined families were fine and showed no symptoms of any ailment, PMC chief health officer Anil Ravetkar said.
Meanwhile, the doctor who treated the D8217;Silva family has been quarantined after he complained of a mild 8216;8216;sore throat8217;8217;. Another person suspected to have SARS has been admitted to the Bhavnagar Civil Hospital.
