
Having shipped more than 25 million phones in one year, Finish mobile phone giant Nokia is planning to ramp up its production capacity at its Chennai factory and is looking at increasing its market share.
8220;Our current market share in India is very healthy and it is improving,8221; Soren Peterson, senior vice president, entry business unit mobile phone, Nokia said.
Asked whether Nokia plans to invest further to ramp up its capacity, Peterson said, 8220;We are very happy with the performance. It is running as per our plans.8221; 8220;I expect that we shall increase the capacity. But how much and when and what what will be the investment, we are looking at all these issues,8221; he added.
Currently, from the Chennai factory, which was set up more than a year ago, Nokia is shipping 80 per cent of the phones in the domestic market while the rest 20 per cent is being exported to neighbouring countries.
Asked whether Nokia was exporting phones to Pakistan from India, Peterson said, 8220;No. We are not sending Indian manufactured phones to Pakistan.8221;
Nokia8217;s exports from Chennai factory are mostly to South East Asia, Middle East and African markets. On the booming Indian market, Peterson said 8220;Indian market is growing much more than what we had assumed and we will continue to be the market leader mainly because of our range of products.8221;
