
CHANDIGARH, Dec 10: The Administration has decided to enforce the principle of quot;no-work, no-payquot; in the wake of the UT Powermen Union8217;s call for observing one-day protest token strike tomorrow. In a statement issued here today, UT Powermen Union8217;s general secretary Bhag Mal Rana said the strike will start from 12 a.m.tonight and the employees will neither do any work nor attend to any complaint during the strike.
The Union is seeking withdrawal of the new economic and industrial policy, stopping of privatisation of power sectors and other public sector units besides fulfilling its other demands.
A press statement issued by the Engineering Department of UT Administration described the proposed strike as unjustified, stating that there was no privatisation of power sector in the UT and the department was in the government sector. quot;The employees going on strike will incur a break in their service and shall forfeit their past service benefits. Besides, the principle of no-work, no-pay8217; shall be strictly enforced,quot; it added.
Meanwhile, a rally was held by Chandigarh UT Subordinate Services Federation and the federation president Ramesh Kumar claimed that all employees would take part in tomorrow8217;s rally.
The Class IV Government Employees Union Punjab, also organised a mobilisation rally and raised slogans here today. Trade Union Council, Chandigarh, TBRL Employees Union, General Insurance Employees Association, Punjab Bank Employees Federation Chandigarh and several other associations also geared their activists for the strike.
Meanwhile, Chandigarh Government Transport Workers8217; Union has pulled out of tomorrow8217;s strike quot;keeping in view the positive responsequot; of the management to the demands.quot; National organisation of government employees has condemned the proposed strike.
